Dementia

Dementia is characterised by a gradual decline in cognitive function, which leads to progressive loss of independence. If diagnosed early, dementia can be treated with breakthrough drugs.

The role of perfusion imaging in dementia

Perfusion imaging via ASL is powerful tool to monitor dementia. Not only is it sensitive to multiple types of dementia, but it is sensitive to the disease at an earlier stage, enabling treatment to be started before irreversible damage.

QI’s ASL technology has major advantages over the current gold-standard imaging technology for dementia, which is a PET scan.

QI’s dementia reporting software

QI radiological reporting software processes ASL perfusion scans into an easy-to-read report which helps spot the early signs of dementia and monitor progression.

Five-year longitudinal case report for a female subject. In the final two years, regional Z-scores show a marked decline in regional perfusion, supporting the clinical diagnosis of MCI.

Diagnostic and prognostic accuracy

Tested on ADNI3 data, QI’s ASL perfusion reporting software achieves PET-like performance for differentiating mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from AD, and predicting conversion from MCI to AD.
